About the role
As an Engineering Manager for Software at reMarkable you will be a part of the team responsible for developing and maintaining software for our current and future products, where you will have a key role in further building our team and competence. Your core tasks will be building the team and empowering talents on a daily basis, being in charge of performance, retention, and recruitment. We see it as essential that you can immerse yourself to a certain extent into the technical tasks your direct reports work on.

You will staff your direct reports to various cross-functional teams across the organization, and be responsible for their well-being, development, and ongoing fit in the company.

You will collaborate closely with a Principal Engineer to develop the technical roadmaps within the functional team you manage. As well as working closely with other Engineering Managers, Product Development Managers, Design Leads and Tech Leads creating the best environment for solving complex problems.

We are friendly and ambitious people covering aspects of modern product development, from the hardware and physical parts up to the global Cloud Infrastructure.

Further tasks and responsibilities:

• Building bridges with peer managers and functions, such as UX, Design, Test Automation, Application development and Cloud

  Conducting 1:1s and performance reviews to develop your reports professionally

• Balancing the needs and opportunities of individuals versus those of the company as a whole

• Cultivating creativity, informal knowledge arenas, and inspiring others to share

• Keeping an eye on overall technical quality and agility: ensuring good trade-offs

Who we believe will succeed in this role

We believe you have good communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively and build positive relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and at all organizational levels. You have a few years of experience leading engineers and facilitating development in their professional career, fostering an inclusive environment and positively engaging groups. You have experience with recruitment, are comfortable acting as a hiring manager, and motivated to attract world class software talent.

We also believe you have:

• Master or Bachelor’s degree from a university or college

• Experience with software or embedded systems and products, working on solving technical issues

• Genuine interest in innovative technologies and consumer electronic products

Practical information

• We will review applicants on a rolling basis

• The role will be based in our HQ in Oslo, Norway

• You should have a valid work permit from the EU/EEA (Relocation assistance can be provided)
